Florida Sales Tax

The standard sales tax in Florida is 6%, although some counties levy an additional tax which can bring it up to 7%.   This is the balance for Florida not collecting a state income tax as many other states do.

Sales Tax Holidays

At certain times of the year a "sales tax holiday" is declared, which suspends the Florida sales tax on certain kinds of things that you buy.   These holidays tend to be before the start of hurricane season and before the start of the school year to allow residents to stock up tax-free on hurricane supplies and things that students will need for the coming school year.

In 2007, the Hurricane Preparedness sales tax holiday is June 1 through June 12, and the school supplies tax holiday is August 4th through August 13th.
